Research topics:

Regulation of intracellular ion channel function, currently with focus mainly on cardiac ryanodine receptors (RyRs) and investigation of the “coupled gating” mechanism. Such cooperativity is manifested by simultaneous openings and closings of several ion channels. This phenomenon is one of the suggested mechanisms which might account for termination of Ca2+ release from intracellular stores essential for the relaxation of cardiac muscle. Experimental facilities include single channel recording using the voltage clamp method with a channel reconstituted into an artificial lipid membrane.
